The Basic Topographic Map of the Czech Republic 1:5 000 in the plane coordinate system of the European Terrestrial Reference System 1989 in the Universal Transverse Mercator projection of meridian zones (ETRS89-TMzn), hereinafter referred to as ZTM 5/ETRS89, extends the national map series from 1 January 2026 as a variant of ZTM 5 in the plane coordinate system ETRS89-TMzn. It thus represents an alternative to ZTM 5 in the national coordinate system S-JTSK. In terms of content, ZTM 5/ETRS89 does not differ from the primary ZTM 5/S-JTSK. The map is available as print files in PDF format (CMYK) containing the complete content of the map sheet and in raster form in TIFF format (RGB, 24-bit colour depth, resolution 508 dpi, LZW compression). The distribution unit is a ZTM 5/ETRS89 map sheet. In the case of the print PDF, the map sheet size is 500 × 790 mm; in the case of the raster TIFF tile, the segment size is 411 × 522 mm. The position of individual tiles in the coordinate system is ensured by world files (TFW). ZTM 5/ETRS89 covers the entire territory of the Czech Republic in a continuous map sheet layout, represented on 18 287 map sheets. Similarly to ZTM 5/S-JTSK, from which it is derived, ZTM 5/ETRS89 contains planimetry, altimetry, and map lettering. Planimetry includes settlements and individual objects, transport networks, hydrography, boundaries of administrative units and cadastral units, boundaries of protected areas, points of horizontal geodetic control, vegetation, and land cover. Altimetry represents terrain relief depicted by contour lines and terrain steps. Map lettering consists of generic object designations, standardised geographical nomenclature (including street names), contour labels, spot heights, and building numbers. Only objects occurring within the territory of the Czech Republic are depicted. Necessary generalisation and displacement of individual objects are applied only to a very limited extent. The map provides detailed information about the defined territory with high positional accuracy while preserving the shape and size of depicted areal topographic objects as in the source databases. The print PDF file additionally contains the kilometre grid of ETRS89-TMzn and S-JTSK, the geographical grid of ETRS89, the map frame with frame data (e.g., directional information for selected roads, names of neighbouring settlements and descriptions of neighbouring countries, coordinates), and marginal information (e.g., legend, imprint data, graphical, numerical and slope scale, interpolation scale of the ETRS89 geographical grid, map sheet layout overview, meridian convergence and magnetic declination, overview of administrative and cadastral boundaries and boundaries of protected areas).
The Basic Topographic Map of the Czech Republic 1:5 000 in the S-JTSK coordinate system (ZTM 5/S-JTSK) has extended the scale series of the national map series of the Land Survey Office since 2023. ZTM 5/S-JTSK is produced from the Fundamental Base of Geographic Data of the Czech Republic (ZABAGED®), the Digital Terrain Model of the Czech Republic, 5th Generation (DMR 5G), the Geonames database of geographical names of the Czech Republic, and the Data10 cartographic database. The data are processed in the ZTM 5 cartographic database of the IS SMD technological line. Print files containing the complete content of the map sheet are generated in PDF format (CMYK), and raster files of the map field are produced in TIFF format (RGB, 24-bit colour depth, 508 dpi, LZW compression). Data are also exported from the cartographic database in vector formats ZTM 5/S-JTSK – SHP and DGN8, allowing a certain level of editing in GIS and CAD applications. The distribution unit is a ZTM 5 map sheet, which for raster TIFF files and vector data represents a segment of 2.5 × 2 km with sides parallel to the coordinate axes of S-JTSK. For raster data, the position of segments in the coordinate system is ensured by world files (TFW) for the S-JTSK / Krovak EN display. The print PDF additionally contains coordinate grids (the kilometre grid of S-JTSK and the geographical and kilometre grid of ETRS89/TMzn), the map frame with frame data (e.g., directional information for selected roads, names of neighbouring settlements, descriptions of neighbouring countries, coordinates), and marginal information (e.g., legend, imprint data, graphical, numerical, and slope scale, graphical overview of administrative and cadastral boundaries and boundaries of protected areas). Furthermore, the map field is extended by an overlap strip of 100 m in the east and west and 50 m in the north and south. ZTM 5/S-JTSK contains planimetry, altimetry, and map lettering. Planimetry includes settlements and individual objects, transport networks, hydrography, boundaries of administrative units and cadastral units, boundaries of protected areas, points of horizontal geodetic control, vegetation, and land cover. Altimetry represents terrain relief depicted by contour lines from the ZABAGED® – Altimetry – Contour Lines product derived from DMR 5G, with a basic contour interval of 1 m, terrain steps, rock formations, gullies, landslides or scree, isolated rocks and boulders, groups and rows of stones, and spot heights with indicated elevation. The map therefore provides detailed information about the defined territory with high positional accuracy while preserving the shape and size of the depicted areal topographic objects as in the source databases.
ZTM 50/ETRS89 was created in 2023 from ZTM 50/S-JTSK as an extension of the national map series to include the ZTM 50 variant in the ETRS89-TMzn plane coordinate system. It is available as print files in PDF format (CMYK) containing the complete content of the map sheet, and in raster TIFF format (RGB, 24-bit colour depth, 508 dpi, LZW compression). The distribution unit is the ZTM 50/ETRS89 map sheet. In the case of the print PDF, the map sheet size is 500 × 790 mm. In the case of the raster TIFF tile, the segment size is 411 × 522 mm. The position of individual tiles in the coordinate system is ensured by world files (TFW).
ZTM 50/S-JTSK started to be produced using digital technology in 2020 from the Data50 cartographic database, updated on the basis of the Fundamental Base of Geographic Data of the Czech Republic (ZABAGED®) and the Geonames database of geographical names of the Czech Republic, as a replacement for the Base Map of the Czech Republic 1:50 000 (ZM 50). It is available as print files in PDF format (CMYK) containing the complete content of the map sheet, in raster TIFF format (RGB, 24-bit colour depth, 508 dpi, LZW compression), and in vector format in SHP and DGN8, enabling the use of ZTM 50/S-JTSK data in GIS and CAD applications, including limited editing. The distribution unit is the ZTM 50/S-JTSK map sheet. In the case of the print PDF, it covers an area of 400 × 500 mm with an overlap of 20 mm in the east–west direction and 10 mm in the north–south direction, plus space for frame data and marginal information (total PDF area 500 × 790 mm). In the case of the raster TIFF tile, the segment size is 400 × 500 mm (corresponding to 20 × 25 km at map scale). The position of individual tiles in the coordinate system is ensured by world files (TFW). The same spatial extent applies to the distribution units of vector data in SHP and DGN8 formats.
