Data vznikla ve firmě Ageris v 90. letech. Od té doby jsou aktualizována Odborem životního prostředí (OŽP) Magistrátu města Brna. Data jsou vedlejším produktem nařízení evidovat zájmové významné krajinné prvky (VKP) a slouží ke správě VKP a pro činnost při územním a stavebním řízení. Významné krajinné prvky jsou dle zákona č. 114/1992 Sb. o ochraně přírody a krajiny ekologicky, geomorfologicky nebo esteticky hodnotná část krajiny utvářející její typický vzhled nebo přispívající k udržení její stability. Data obsahují pouze tzv. registrované významné krajinné prvky − neobsahují oblasti, které jsou významnými krajinnými prvky ze zákona automaticky (lesy, vodní toky,... ). Registraci schvaluje Zastupitelstvo města Brna, data vytváří OŽP Magistrátu města Brna. Součástí dat jsou důvody ochrany, popis ekotopu, biologická a geologická charakteristika, možné ohrožení, způsob ochrany, plány péče, typ (geologický, zoologický, botanický), popis stanoviště - ekotop, zdůvodnění. Data jsou zobrazena v aplikaci Ochrana přírody. Podrobnější informace najdete v dokumentaci. Data jsou v souřadnicovém systému GCS WGS84.
